Married with Separate Bedrooms

The other day our family of 8 was at the Chiropractor’s office about to leave when an older woman who was there to have her baby dog adjusted began counting our children out loud.

When she was done showing us her exemplarily Math skills she proceeded to look at my husband and I and then said this…

“Six kids? (As if she wasn’t quite sure of her own counting skills) You need to get separate bedrooms.”

Say what?

I am quite aware of the fact that not everyone embraces loving your husband with all your body and soul or entrusting your fertility and how many children you have up to God but I do.

It may not be the popular vote but it’s my vote.

This picture is for that lady and all those other people who so rudely voice their unwanted opinions. I may be  Christian woman but I am also human and sometimes enough is enough.  How did I handle that woman? As a human my first instinct was to call her out on her rudeness but right as I thought about it I thought about how I reflected my husband who was standing beside me and even more importantly I was a reflection of Christ.

So I chose kindness.

My father always said, “If you have nothing nice to say then keep your mouth shut.”

I think that lady could have benefited from my fathers wisdom.

I find a lot of people especially as they age, feel it necessary to verbalise every thought that comes into their head. But we are called to be kind, as you were. Not everything is edifying, or uplifting but destructive. Don’t let it get into your spirit, but know that your choice is between you, your husband and God- no one else… Bless you and your lovely family. Glenys
